Ultimaker user Valcrow has come up with an awesome vertical axis wind turbine design and he’s put together a detailed tutorial on how to print and assemble it. It wouldn’t be too hard to modify and hook this puppy up to use a real generator either. The advantage of the vertical design is that it doesn’t need to be pointed to the wind, advantageous if your local wind direction varies a lot. The model has been designed with a hollow interior to make it more lightweight.
As Valcrow aka (Jacky Wan) says, “Imagine If we could create a turbine that is open source, inexpensive and easily reproducible anywhere in the world via desktop 3D printers”.. that sounds like a great idea to me.
